Works best if the rest of your operation is already sitting in the Square world. For small hospitality teams, that matters. Hours, worker setup, employees and contractors, and the normal payroll tax pieces are in one place, so there is less copying things around and less checking the same thing twice.
The admin side is plain enough. Not exciting, but plain is fine for payroll. PTO and sick leave policies are there, and switching from another provider is presented in a fairly practical way if you have reports ready. I would still test exports and state tax handling before trusting it fully, because payroll mistakes are payroll mistakes.
My main complaint is that it feels most useful when you fit the Square pattern already. If you need heavy custom controls or a more complex back office workflow, it may feel a bit boxed in. For a straightforward team paying W-2 staff and 1099 contractors, it is solid enough for everyday use overall.
