Review of Microsoft Power BI

Useful reporting, but source ownership takes work

Source ownership is my first irritation when connecting data. In a large construction business, figures have different owners and definitions. I am implementing reporting for analytics, so that ambiguity matters immediately. The broad range of connections is useful — across cloud and on premises sources. Still, a connection alone does not establish who owns each figure. I am checking source definitions before trusting dashboards in wider use. That review takes time and can slow down implementation. The extra checking has a real cost in analyst time. Data preparation is helping me make reports more consistent. Once definitions settle, colleagues can discuss the same figures more easily. I remain cautious about sharing polished results too early. Much of the control sits with me during setup. A capable reporting tool overall — but integration work needs discipline.
